Henry VII

For 30 years the houses of Lancaster and York were fighting for control over medieval England. in 1483 Richard of York would become Richard III and possibly kill the princes in the tower but then 2 years after his coronation he was fighting Henry Tudor, son of a noble who was Henry VI’s half brother, who by the time Richard was king was already dead. Henry won the battle of Bosworth and Richard died there, his crown being found in a bush and Henry was crowned king of England right after the battle, becoming Henry VII. Henry had major problems that needed solving so he and his dynasty would reign without opposition,

problem 1) barons had lots of land and power and also had private armies

solution) ban private armies and tax the barons heavily.

problem 2) he needed the house of York to be on his side

solution) marry Elizabeth of York

problem 3)he had little money he needed it to make an army, money for weapons, money for entertainment and money for large country houses

solution) he made deals other countries, such as when he needed money for a war with France he instead got the French king, Charles the eighth to pay Henry 150,000 pounds to not fight, he also taxed the barons and took their land.

Henry VII’s heirs

he had 2 sons, Arthur Tudor, and Henry Tudor (later known as Henry VIII)

Arthur died before he was to be king of England and Henry succeeded his father as king of England and Henry reigned for 37 years.
